SMSlingshot

Tagging the digital space is a cool way of letting people know of things that might be interesting to them at that certain place. But as all digital things it is not tangible or is only limited to oneself. This is why I like the idea of projection on urban spaces. Another project that I ran to recently deals with a similar topic. Using a slingshot you can shoot short SMS messages on a wall. Supported by a videoprojection the messages are visible to the public, as long as the projector is running :)

Here’s the video:

Public gaming

As a gamer I am always interested in new forms of gaming. I have already made a post on public gaming with the phone as the interaction device. This can be very useful for areas that are crowded and have an instant motion noise. Another form of public gaming can be seen below. The idea is similar to a German television show called “1-2 oder 3” where kids need to stand on the correct position/answer for a given question. I would love to see more of this kind of gaming forms in the future. I think this could also be a nice way of advertising. But I guess I shouldn’t say that too loud…

Data Visualization ...

with a slightly different appraoch then we are usually used to. Instead of using computerbased tools to visualize data for a spceifc topic, an till now unknown group used paint to visualize the trafic.

The whole place turned colorful after several hours.

Zooming User Interface

Microsoft hasn’t been in the news with new, innovative concepts for years. In the past few year though, there are some very cool concepts that emerge from Microsoft.

Photosynth was the beginning of a new kind of interaction that deals with a high amout of data. With a almost seamless zoom, the use can look at hundrets of photos that are merged to one. A new Product called „Microsoft Pivot“ shows a similar way of interaction as Photosynth for browsing the Internet.

I am really curious if this kind of interaction will be part of the Internet Explorer someday. It would definitivly differentiate the Explorer from current products and would bring some movement to the current market.

Holograms at Point of Sale

Augmented reality is becoming more and more popular in the advertising industry, but many concepts not only fail to impress but also make no real sense to the customer. A nice phrase used in the concept phase of augmented reality application is: „...and the the user holds his camera at [put in desired object] and get more information and ....“. Well, i must admit that i have never seen anyone pointing his phone at anything, unless he makes a photo of his friends.

A nice way to combine Augmented reality with a usefull application shows the company http://realfiction.com with their „Dreamoc“ concept. (Please notice the „DO NOT DISTIBUTE!“ J

Phone Interaction

A phone is build for a 1 to 1 interaction. At least the old ones. Current generations of mobile phones can obviously handle more then just this basic interaction, allowing the user to tweet, facebook, sms, mms (someone using that?) and other. Using the traditional way of phone interaction, the talking, can be also a lot of fun, like in the video below.

Digital Toys: Sniff

A nice concept of a toy that uses RFID in a playful manner. Altough it looks interesting i am not really convicend that this toy can be fun to kids. If you look at 3:33 min the girl just looks like she scanning some groceries.

What I like is to provide a direct and unexpected feedback.

Multitouch Meeting Room and ...

… the never ending demonstration of people zooming and panning pictures across a multi-touch table. Seriously, if this is the killer application for multi-touch displays or touch tables, then I never get one.

Nevertheless, this one shows off some interesting concepts, besides picture resizing.

Videoprojection + Interaction

Videoprojections on buildings are quite impressive to the audience. Engaging people to be part of the projection takes the art to a new interactive medium.

Videoprojection Awsomeness!!

While Video projections feature some nice new way of digital art, there are some cool projects that make sense in a commercial useage.

Below you can find awsome exapmles for both digital art and commercial usage
